Q: How can I tell if a metal is plated and how do I clean it?
A: Always read manufacturers recommendations regarding plated metals.
Solid silver and gold are stamped indicating it is a solid metal. For brass and copper, place a magnet on the metal and if it holds to the metal it is plated. Manufacturers of plated metals do not recommend using polishes; often the “plating” is painted on and is paper-thin; these surfaces cannot withstand any cleaning solutions.
Quality plated silver can be polished with MAAS Metal Polish. If you are unsure of the quality of your silver we recommend testing on an inconspicuous area. After polishing, some of our customers have stated they apply MAAS Metal Protector, which completely eliminated re-polishing. They periodically wipe their silver with MAAS Polishing Gloves or a MAAS Polishing Cloth, which gently removes any discoloration while reapplying the
Plated metals must be gently wiped with a very soft cloth; use very little pressure; hard rubbing will remove plating even without using cleaning products.
Q: Can your product be used for polishing aluminum, magnesium, chrome, alloy wheels?
A: MAAS Metal Polishing Crème safely restores tarnished and damaged metals: chrome, aluminum, magnesium, and alloy wheels.
Ron Pollich’s Drag Racing Team uses MAAS Metal Polish and Metal Protector on their aluminum wheels; these products apply anti-static protection to wheels, repelling brake dust and dirt. Ron Pollich mentioned that during racing, fire hazards occur as brake dust builds up and this is no longer a problem since he has been using MAAS Polishes.
MAAS Metal Protector is recommended for chrome that is in good condition that requires shine and protection. MAAS is also safe for chrome plating. Use a very soft cloth to remove discoloration. After cleaning, apply MAAS Metal Protector. The super-strong protection applies a deep luster that no product can duplicate. Additionally, you can use our Polishing Cream on the chrome as well as aluminium trim that has been significantly oxidized over the years.
Q: What do you recommend for lacquered surfaces?
A: MAAS Metal Protector protects lacquered surfaces from cracking and breaking down, maintaining the original luster. MAAS recommends applying the protector to new lacquered metals. If lacquered metals become tarnished we recommend customers contacting the manufacturers for instructions on removing the lacquer coating.
Q: How can I be sure that
A: We've had numerous independent lab test results for MAAS products, endorsements from companies such as the Boeing and McDonnell Aircraft testing facility, Motorcycle Consumer News (an independent testing facility), The Porsche Club of America (awarded “First Place Overall” to a Porsche restored with MAAS products), Jewellery Consumer Products Test Facilities, magazine and newspaper endorsements, along with consumer letters.
